In my opinion, the translation here is closer to "never mind", "anyway".

yes indeedy. That is how EN teens and kids use "whatever" these days - to dismiss a line of conversation and move on to something else.

Precisely. I just felt that the English use is associated with the typical teenage couldn't-care-less attitudes whereas in Bulgarian this phrase is used by everybody and is, how shall I put it, less arrogant maybe?
